Yet, this value alone does not allow us to anticipate the operational reality of a fleet of sensors. <\/p>\n<p>In practice, the actual range depends on many technical and environmental factors, and can vary from one sensor to another.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why does the autonomy vary naturally ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Several factors influence the lifespan of a sensor :<\/p>\n<p><b>the battery itself<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>manufacturing tolerances,<\/li>\n<li>natural ageing,<\/li>\n<li>conditions of stockage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>electronic design<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>communication protocol used,<\/li>\n<li>frequency and volume of transmissions,<\/li>\n<li>energy optimization of components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>terms of use<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>temperature,<\/li>\n<li>intensity of use,<\/li>\n<li>real environment, often more demanding than the test conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These factors create a natural dispersion of autonomies within the same batch.<\/p>\n<p><b>A statistical reality : not all sensors age at the same rate<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The autonomy of a set of sensors generally follows a statistical distribution called the <a style=\"color: #2d9d9c;\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loi_normale\"><span style=\"color: #2d9d9c;\">normal law<\/span><\/a> or <b>&#8220;bell curve&#8221;<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>That means :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>some sensors will work longer than the average,<\/li>\n<li>some will break down earlier,<\/li>\n<li>the majority (68%) will be around the advertised lifespan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The graph below represents<b> a typical example of a batch of 1000 bluetooth sensors announced with an average battery life of 3 years.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.superwyze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Graphique-duree-vie-capteurs-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.superwyze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Graphique-duree-vie-capteurs-2.png 793w, https:\/\/www.superwyze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Graphique-duree-vie-capteurs-2-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/www.superwyze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Graphique-duree-vie-capteurs-2-768x461.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On this curve :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The average lifespan is <b>1,095 days (3 years)<\/b><b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>The first sensors will fail before 15 months.<\/li>\n<li>After 2 years, around <strong>13 sensors will fail every day<\/strong>, and this number will increase very quickly.<\/li>\n<li>200 sensors will not reach 2 years !<\/li>\n<li>And 500 sensors will have been changed\/repaired before 3 years&#8230;
